The Hwa Kang Journal of TEFL, published by the Language Center of the
Chinese Culture University in Taipei, is now announcing a call for
papers for the 2004 edition of our journal. The Journal, now in its
tenth year of publication especially welcomes writers whose first
language is not English to submit and is intended to promote the
teaching of English as a foreign language, with a focus on listening
and speaking, considered together as a conversational or communicative
ability or skill, or considered separately as two distinct language
abilities or skills. Papers submitted may explore one segment or
aspect, or more, or give overall consideration to TEFL as a subject.

Following the high success of the WSS1, the University at Albany
(State University of New York) is pleased to announce its Second
International Workshop on Spanish Sociolinguistics (WSS2).
Keynote Speaker: Professor John Lipski
Plenary speaker: Professor Jorge Guitart
Abstracts of original sociolinguistic research analyzing Spanish data
or data from contact situations between Spanish and other linguistic
varieties are requested for a 20 minute presentation. Abstracts should
be attached to an email message sent to the following address
(sayahi at albany.edu); they must be anonymous and should not exceed 450
words in length. Please include the name and the affiliation of the
author(s) in the body of the email message. The deadline for abstract
submission is November 15th, 2003. Notice of acceptance or rejection
will be sent before December 15, 2003. Selected papers will be
published by Cascadilla Proceedings Project.
