We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.
To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Hi,
If you know of any study investigating a perceptual confusion of
American English vowels by native speakers of Russian or any database
with words including these vowels, please send me an e-mail to
akharkhurin at gc.cuny.edu Thank you in advance, Tolya

Subject: Database of baby babbling
Greetings!
I have been doing research in information theory over the past
several years and have been reading the volume "Photological
Development" by Dr. Vihman. I am presently searching for a data base
of baby babbling with enough signaling units (phoenems, etc.) to
calculate the 2nd-order entropy.
Might there be some extensive (few hundred signals) data base
that I might access or that is in the published litereature?
Much thanks for the help with this. I've had some difficulty
as this is a bit out of my field of expertise.
With best regards,
Dr. Laurance R. Doyle
