Research assistantships for Doctoral study in
Theoretical/Computational Linguistics, Barcelona

Description:
The Department of Translation and Philology at Pompeu Fabra University
is offering two research assistantships for doctoral study beginning
academic year 2003-2004 (start date: October 1, 2003) Both
assistantships are in the areas of theoretical or computational
linguistics. One is associated with a funded project in formal
semantics and is for one year, renewable up to four years. The other
is linked to a funded project in formal pragmatics and is for a year,
renewable for a second year.
Students awarded the assistantships must enroll in either of the two
doctoral programs sponsored by the Department:
-Multilingual Communication: emphasis in formal and computational
linguistics (http://www.upf.es/dtf/3ercicle/doctorats02).
-Cognitive Science and Language (http://www.ub.es/ccil/en), jointly
offered by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the University of
Barcelona, Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Universitat Rovira i Virgili
(Note: To be eligible for these assistantships, students must enroll
through Universitat Pompeu Fabra)
Both programs have been awarded a special status by the Spanish
Ministry of Education, the so-called ''Mención de Calidad'', which
provides among other things additional funding opportunities for
international students to cover ccommodation and travel expenses
(www.univ.mecd.es/univ/jsp/plantilla.jsp?id=1102). For further

The Cognitive Science program is also part of the International
Graduate School of Catalonia (IGSOC); see http://www.igsoc.net.
Students of any nationality may apply. Knowledge of Spanish or Catalan
is not essential for participation in the Cognitive Science Program,
though some knowledge of or willingness to learn one or both of the
languages is recommended.

* academic transcript (original or certified true copy)
* bachelor's degree or letter certifying that
the applicant has the degree (certified true copy)
* curriculum vitae
* passport-size photograph
* photocopy of the national identity card or passport
