HLT/NAACL 2003 Workshop on Building and Using Parallel Texts:
Data Driven Machine Translation and Beyond

Resources that were made available to participants in the shared task
on word alignment are now publicly available. They include:
   * Guidelines for word alignment
   * Parallel texts for training word alignments systems
   * Gold standard word aligned data
   * Evaluation code

Elliott Macklovitch kindly provided us with the slides of his invited
talk: "On the Pleasure of Being Bi-textual OR My Life in Parallel
Text"

We are also making available the electronic version of the papers
published in the workshop proceedings, including descriptions of
systems participating in the shared task on word alignment, regular
papers, and short papers.

Subject:  Aphasia Awareness Month

Dear Linguists,

''Aphasia'' is defined by the National Aphasia Association (NAA)A) as
an impairment of the ability to use or comprehend words, usually
acquired as a result of a stroke or other brain injury.  The National
Aphasia Association is a nonprofit organization that promotes public
education, research, rehabilitation and support services to assist
people with aphasia and their families.  To encourage education of the
general public about this devastating but little known disorder, the
NAA is celebrating Aphasia Awareness Month this June 2003. This year's
theme is ''Promoting Independence With Aphasia''.  You can learn more
about aphasia and Aphasia Awareness Month at www.aphasia.org, or by
contacting the NAA's Response Center at 800-922-4622 or
naa at aphasia.org.
