Applications are invited for the post of
Lector
in the Department of English from 1st October 2003. The post is for an
indefinite period and remuneration is according to BAT IIa within the
public service tariff.
At present there are four lectors employed in the Department's
practical language section, which is attached to the Chair of
Linguistics for organisational purposes. They are responsible for
teaching a total of ca. 1000 students language skills in the areas of
Grammar, German-English Translation, Discussion and Composition,
Vocabulary Training, Phonetics and Pronunciation and British and
American Life and Institutions at both basic and advanced levels of
their studies. The new lector will teach 16 hours per week and, in
addition, be available at regular times for more personal
consultation.
Applicants must be native speakers of British English and graduates in
a discipline relevant to the duties of a lector. They are expected to
have had several years teaching experience and not to have spent more
than two years abroad in the period immediately preceding their
appointment in Goettingen. Candidates are expected to have adequate
German skills. Qualifications in EFL/TESOL would be very welcome. The
new lector will be expected to teach British English Phonetics and
Pronunciation and to take charge of programmes such as Assistant
Teacher, DAAD, and ERASMUS as soon as possible.
