Please take a moment to read the following important message from
Prof. Monica Macaulay.
Dear Colleagues,
The latest LINGUIST message about the fundraiser says that only 532
people have donated so far, which is only 3% of the total number of
subscribers.
C'mon folks! Think about it - LINGUIST is one of the few useful things
that comes into your mailbox!
LINGUIST is *not* a sad story about a Nigerian who needs your
bank account number to handle a large fund transfer
LINGUIST is *not* an offer to enlarge any part of your body
whatsoever
LINGUIST is *not* free toner cartridges
LINGUIST is *not* pictures of naked women (or men or other
categories of humans)
LINGUIST is *not* a low-interest mortgage or other EZ credit
offer
LINGUIST is *not* a message from your Dean about making cuts to
your departmental budget
LINGUIST is *not* a free $20 gift card with purchase of select
Hoover floor care items
LINGUIST is *not* a warning about a computer virus that doesn't
really exist
LINGUIST is *not* a "funny" thing that one of your acquaintances
just had to forward to 200 of their best friends
LINGUIST is *not* 30000000 email addresses free of charge
I'm not going to tell you what LINGUIST *is*, because you already know.
It's just the most valuable email service around, IMHO.
Sometimes I wonder if people don't donate because they think they have to
donate some huge amount. That's not true at all. Whatever you can
afford would be greatly appreciated. You get nice premiums back and a
chance at some cool prizes in the drawing.
Please go to http://linguistlist.org/donation.html and donate whatever
you can afford. It will be greatly appreciated.

Subject: How to Donate and the LINGUIST List Hall of Fame
This year we hope to raise $50,000 to support the students who work on
LINGUIST List and keep the list running. Thank you from all the crew
for your support.
The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University
and as such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is
a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number
is 38-6005986. These donations can be offset against your federal and
sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only). For more
information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial advisor.
Many companies also offer a gift matching scheme, such that they will
match any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this
entails your contacting your human resources department and sending us
a form that the EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer.
This is generally a simple administrative procedure that doubles the
value of your gift to LINGUIST, without costing you an extra
penny. Please take a moment to check if your company operates such a
scheme.
HOW TO DONATE
You can make a contribution by selecting one of three convenient
payment methods: secure credit card form, check, or wire transfer.
You can also PLEDGE your support to LINGUIST and pay later, i.e. send
in a check. Also, if you do not want to use a credit card, but wish to
