CALL FOR PAPERS

GENERAL INFORMATION

Conferences on Cognitive Modeling have been held with success since
1998. In 2000 the title was changed to "Cognitive Modeling in
Linguistics". In 1998 and 2000 the conference on Cognitive Modeling
was held as a part of the National Conference on Artificial
Intelligence (CAI), and Divnomorskoe (Russia) hosted the conference in
2001 as a part of the International Congress on Artificial
Intelligence (ICAI-2001) and in 2002 as a part of the IEEE
International Conference "Artificial Intelligence Systems" (IEEE
AIS'02). This year the conference is to be held in Varna (Bulgaria) as
a joint event of "Cognitive Modeling in Linguistics" and
"Computerization of Natural Languages". The aim of the conference is
to integrate the efforts of specialists in cognitive psychology,
learning theory, neural networks, cognitive linguistics, knowledge
engineering, semiotics, and psycholinguistics in their investigation
of cognitive processing of language information.

English. Papers can be submitted in Russian (with an abstract in
English) and in English. Electronic formats MS-Word, RTF, txt or
PDF. Paper length is 6-20 pages.

The International Clinical Phonetics and Linguistics Association will
be holding its 10th Symposium in Lafayette, Louisiana at Mardi Gras
time 2004 (26-29 Feb). Papers in all areas of the field are
welcome.

ICPLA 10th Symposium
Call for Papers

Call Deadline extended: 15-June-2003

The 10th meeting of the International Clinical Phonetics and
Linguistics Association (ICPLA) will take place in Lafayette,
Louisiana in 2004, and the Organising Committee is now issuing the
formal Call for Papers. The Conference will take place from Wednesday
night 25 February 2004 until Saturday 28th. An innovation for ICPLA10
will be the introduction of a fourth plenary lecture, on Wednesday
night, just before the welcoming buffet/ reception. This plenary will
be presented by Dr John W. Oller, Jr., and the other plenary speakers
will be Dr David Ingram (Arizona State University), Dr Gary Weismer
(University of Wisconsin, Madison) and Dr Claire Penn (Case Western
Reserve University and the University of the Witwatersrand, South
Africa).

ICPLA10 has been timed to allow delegates to attend the Mardi Gras
celebrations in Louisiana just before the conference starts. Mardi
Gras parades and festivities take place, of course, in New Orleans,
and Baton Rouge.  But there are also many other towns in the Acadiana
region of the state that hold celebrations. Lafayette itself hosts
several parades, and arrangements will be made with the conference
hotel to provide special rates for delegates deciding to come a day or
two early. Full details on accommodations and costs will be available
in the next couple of months, and members will be e-mailed. Details
will also be made available on the ICPLA

We now invite all ICPLA members to submit abstracts for consideration
at ICPLA10. We do also welcome abstracts from non-members. Papers in
all areas of our field are welcomed. Members receive a discount
conference rate.  Abstracts should be submitted electronically to
mjball at louisiana.edu The abstract should be no longer than 350 words;
please state whether you wish the abstract to be considered as an oral
presentation (20 mins + 10 mins discussion) or a poster, or for
either. As with ICPLA9, we hope to publish selected papers in
'Clinical Linguistics and Phonetics' and the 'Journal of Multilingual
Communication Disorders'.

Please provide abstracts in the following format: title; author(s) and
affiliation(s); text of abstract; references (please keep to minimum);
status (oral / poster / either); name and full postal address of
communicating author, together with phone, fax, and e-mail details.
Please submit abstracts by 15th June 2003. We aim to inform authors of
the reviewers' decisions at the end of July 2003. If you have any
