Subject:  Southern pronunciations of /ay/

Dear Linguists.

I am currently doing research on the /ay/ sound (e.g., ''high'',
''time'', etc.) in Southern varieties of American English. Does anyone
have access to a database of Southern speech? I would be very
interested in getting access to a few high quality recordings
containing the sound /ay/.

Subject:  linguistics in elementary schools

I am trying to introduce some elementary ideas in linguistics to
aprimary school class (aged 9 - 10) as I think it would support their
phonics work, but I am having great difficulty finding suitable
material.  Can you suggest any suitable sites?  eg what linguists do,
how consonants and vowels are formed, how can we define them etc etc
