Description:

Background

We are looking for possible candidates for a 16-day job for Management
Training for African interns. The Department of Commerce,
International Trade Administration's Management Training for Africa
(MTA), is managing a specialized program in inter-modal logistics to
train mid-level government and parastatal officials from the five
countries of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU)--Botswana,
Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Swaziland--on the transportation
infrastructure industry with a focus on roads and ports and their
integration.

The Training Program will consist of one two-week training session
with approximately fifteen to twenty participants.  The first four
days of training will be provided by government and private agencies
in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.  The remainder of the
two-week Training Session will consist of visits to private companies
(Host Firms), ports and industry expositions, with the Office of
Africa overseeing all training and program development.

The period of performance of this contract is from the effective date
through sixteen (16) days.

Objectives

One individual to serve as the facilitator for the Training Program
(Facilitator).

The program dates are July 12-26, 2003.

The Facilitator will travel with the group throughout the two-week
Training Session, providing logistical and program support. The first
4 days of the session are spent in Washington, D.C. and the remainder
traveling to other cities within the U.S.

Requirements

- ''green card'' or U.S. citizenship
- past residence in at least one of the 5 countries of the Southern
  African Customs Union (South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, or
  Swaziland)
- minimum of bachelor's degree (M.A. or Ph.D. preferred)
- experience in training/education
- ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, in
  English.
- ability to perform liaison functions among various organizations
  involved in the MTA Inter-modal Logistics Program.
- strong organizational skills, in particular the ability to organize,
  plan and coordinate logistics involved in supervising a group of
  15-20 interns, including arranging ground transportation, lodging
  and domestic air travel if necessary.
- strong administrative skills.
- strong inter-cultural communication skills.
- strong public speaking ability.
- assertive personality with the ability to handle challenging situations.

Knowledge of at least one or more of the indigenous languages of
southern Africa is a plus.
