The Department of Communication of the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant
Professors, one in each of the following areas:
(1) Social Interaction: We seek a colleague who examines specific
communication practices as formative of social and cultural lives.
The successful candidate will have an interactionally based
research program which may address issues of conflict and
identities in contexts such as organizations, family, health,
politics, or technology.
(2) Media and Cultural Studies: We seek a colleague trained in a
cultural studies approach to media whose specialization is
audience research. Other desirable areas of expertise may include
race and representation, popular culture, cultural policy, and
global media industries.
Student supervision is expected at the B.A., M.A. and Ph.D.
levels. Ph.D. preferred (with degree in hand by September 1, 2004).
Salary is competitive. Review of applications will begin on January
15, 2004, and will continue until the positions are filled.

research and teaching interests, a curriculum vitae, three letters of
