Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer in the
Department of French, which is part of the School of Modern Language
Studies at UNSW. The successful applicant will play a major role in
teaching French language courses, as well as courses in their area of
specialisation, and will be expected to contribute actively to the
research profile of the School. The appointee will also be required
to contribute to team teaching, and must be able to contribute to
honours and postgraduate supervision and School and Faculty based
courses. Some experience with new educational technologies (such as
WebCT) would be an advantage.
Essential criteria: a doctorate in an appropriate area of French
cultural studies or French linguistics/applied linguistics; native or
near-native fluency in French and English; a significant record of
achievement in research appropriate to opportunity in an area of
French studies; a record of high quality teaching, team-teaching in
particular, at all levels of language, based on the
communicative/interactive approach; an understanding of equity and
diversity principles; knowledge of OHS responsibilities and commitment
to attending relevant OHS training. Desirable criteria: experience of
living in France or a French-speaking country; an interest in
innovative and flexible modes of course design and delivery;
familiarity with new educational technologies; willingness to
contribute to joint publications and research projects within the
Department and within the Faculty.
The salary range for Lecturer is AUS$60,304 - AUS$71,050 per year
depending on qualifications and experience. This salary includes a
superable UNSW academic loading of AUS$3,000 per annum payable to all
academic staff (pro rata for fractional academic staff). This is a
full time continuing position, available from February
2004. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a
