The Chair in Applied Language Studies will be in the area of Academic
Literacy/Literacies with particular reference to learners of English
as an additional language.
Candidates will be expected to provide dynamic leadership in research,
conduct and publish their own research, engage in undergraduate and
graduate teaching, supervise postgraduate research, and contribute to
departmental administration.
The Chair will demonstrate excellence in some of the following aspects
of academic literacy/literacies:
- Theories of reading and writing in a second language
- The pedagogy and assessment of second language reading and writing
skills
- Contrastive rhetoric
- Genre analysis and its applications to the study of a second
language
- Critical studies of second language literacy
- The analysis of first and second language written corpora.
