Call for papers

SALT 14 invites submissions for 30-minute presentations (plus
ten-minute discussions) on any topic pertaining to natural language
semantics with relevance to linguistic theory. Abstracts should be at
most 2 pages in length (including references) using a 12 pt. font with
1-inch (2.5 cm) margins on all four side. In the interest of fairness,
these limitations will be strictly enforced.  The same person may
submit at most one abstract as a sole author and one as a co-author.

As a matter of general policy, SALT does not accept papers that at the
time of the conference have been published or have been accepted for
publication. In addition, preference will be given to presentations
that are not duplicated at other major conferences. We therefore
request that authors indicate prior or planned presentations of their
papers along with their contact information when they submit their
abstracts.

We strongly encourage electronic submissions, which may be sent to
salt14 at northwestern.edu.  We ask authors to adhere to the following
guidelines:

- Please write the (first) author's name plus the word 'abstract' in
the subject line of your message (e.g., 'Jones abstract'), and include
author name(s), affiliation and contact information in the body of the
email.

- Please send the abstract as an attachment.  We prefer .pdf files but
will also accept plain text or MS-Word files; if you send the latter,
we ask that you send us a .rtf rather than .doc file if possible.

If you choose to send in your abstract via regular mail, please submit
7 anonymous copies plus a separate card giving the title of the
abstract, author name(s), affiliation, and contact information.

Abstracts (electronic or otherwise) should reach us by 9pm CST,
January 30, 2004. (Please note the later deadline!)  We regret that we

(Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and the Scuola Superiore di Lingue
Moderne per Interpreti e Traduttore (Università di Bologna).

CULT 2004 is the follow up to CULT 2000, organised by the Scuola
Superiore di Lingue Moderne per Interpreti e Traduttore of the
Università di Bologna in Forlì in November 2000

AIMS AND TOPICS

The aim of the conference is to bring together practitioners and
theorists sharing an interest in the design and use of corpora in
translation-related areas, with special reference to translator and
interpreter training.  Contributions, in the form of papers,
demonstrations and posters, are sought on, but not restricted to the
following topics:

- Translation/Interpreting-specific issues relating to the design,
development and use(s) of corpora

- Integrating corpus work into introductory/advanced translation
courses for translators/interpreters

- Corpus-based language learning/teaching for translators/interpreters

- Implications of corpus use with respect to theories of
translation/interpreting

- The respective roles of corpora, conventional reference tools and
other computational translation aids

- The World Wide Web as a resource for translation/interpreting

- Corpora and terminology

- Corpus-based descriptive translation studies in the classroom

- Interaction of CAT and corpus tools in the translation classroom

Proposals for contributions relating to any of the specified topics
should reach the organisation committee no later than October 20th,
complete with abstracts of about 500 words. All proposals will be
reviewed. For further details about the submission procedure, please
refer to the conference web page or contact the organisation committee
at the addresses below.  Notification as regards acceptance of
abstracts will be given from December 1st, 2003.

The official language of the conference is English.

REGISTRATION FEES

EUR 110
EUR 75 (students)

Fees include conference documentation, coffee and biscuits, plus lunch
on Friday and Saturday.

It will also be possible to participate in an official conference
dinner and/or a tour around Barcelona. As for accommodation, a choice
