MA Research Studentship in collaborative subtitling (Japanese/English)
This full-time studentship, based in Leeds, is tenable for 12 months
from 1 October 2003, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful
candidate will work on a project under the joint supervision of
Professor Tony Hartley in Leeds and Professor Keiko Yamane of Hosei
University in Tokyo. The ultimate goal of the project is to design a
virtual environment to support remote collaboration between subtitlers
in UK and Japan. The MA research will focus on an actual collaborative
experience between students in Leeds and Hosei planned for
2003/4. Applications are invited from candidates with a good first
degree in linguistics, anthropology, education, human-computer
interaction, psychology or languages. You must be able to write your
MA dissertation in English and have at least a working knowledge of
Japanese. The studentship of £12,000 is intended to cover fees
(£2,940 for a UK/EU student or £7,765 for an International student),
with the balance providing a contribution towards living expenses.
Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Tony Hartley
(a.hartley at leeds.ac.uk).
