We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.
To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at
http://linguistlist.org/LL/posttolinguist.html.

Dear All ,
I am an MA student at An-Najah University / Nablus in the Occupied
Territories of Palestine and I am doing a resarch on the Problems
of translating English idoms to Arabic and vice versa. Could any

Dear Linguist
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan as well as our
university desire to introduce Master and Ph.D. level research in the
domain of Information Technology/ Computer Science.
We have a number of students who have finished M.Sc. (computer Science)
from our university and are very enthusiastic to pursue post-graduate
research. Their research will be funded by the Higher Education
Commission of Pakistan.
My research has been in the area of recognition of basic-sounds
(vowels and some consonants), speech synthesis etc. I would like to
continue in the same area especially for Urdu (Pakistani Language).
Unfortunately I have been out of touch with research for some time.
I would like suggestions from the Linguists on RECENT topics of
research in Urdu recognition and synthesis WHICH IS PUBLISHABLE IN
STANDARD JOURNALS. TEXT-TO-TEXT MACHINE TRANSLATION (URDU TO ENGLISH) IS
ALSO IN MY INTEREST. I WOULD ALSO LIKE RESEARCH COLLABORATION. I will be
having four to five research students in Oct this year. THANKS.
May I have some suggestions on Journals we should subscribe to.
