The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.
This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

Description:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking to fill 2 open-rank
positions as part of a cluster of faculty positions in the
interdisciplinary area of Cognitive Science. The aim of the cluster is
to develop innovative and excellent research programs that will foster
productive interactions among faculty and students across departments.
These positions are part of a major initiative to build on the strong
record of achievement of UW researchers in areas of Cognitive Science.
Researchers in all areas of Cognitive Science are invited to
apply. This is an interdisciplinary search open to candidates with
backgrounds in any of the allied disciplines constituting Cognitive
Science including, but not limited to: Communicative Disorders,
Computer Science, Education, Linguistics, Neuroscience, Philosophy,
and Psychology. In addition to excellent resources within academic
departments, faculty have the opportunity to capitalize on a
productive network that links researchers across campus. Research
units supporting Cognitive Science include: the Waisman Center for
Human Development and Developmental Disabilities, the Wisconsin Center
for Education Research, the Harlow Primate Laboratory, the W. M. Keck
Laboratory for Brain Imaging and Behavior, and the Center for
Neuroscience.
Successful candidates will have a strong record of achievement in
research consistent with seniority. In addition to research, position
responsibilities entail: teaching and training undergraduate and
graduate students in cognitive science; and department, university,
community, and professional service as appropriate. Faculty hired
under this initiative will have appointments in one or more existing
campus departments. Appointments to begin August, 2005.
Applications should include a CV and a statement describing research
and teaching interests, accomplishments, and direction, as related to
the description above. Names and contact information for three
references should be included for tenured candidates. Junior
candidates should send three letters of recommendation. Review of
applications will begin December 1, 2004.
