Description:
Collins is looking to recruit an Analyst Programmer to join the highly
successful Dictionaries Division, based in Glasgow. The successful candidate
will be responsible primarily for maintaining and developing a GUI front-end in
.Net for a SQL Server database containing dictionary data, but they will also be
expected to get involved in other computational tasks, such as dictionary
project support and new development projects.
Applicants must have:
- Sound knowledge of C#, Visual Studio, XML, SQL Server.
- At least one year's first-hand experience of developing complex applications in
Visual Studio and SQL Server or equivalent.
- An interest in languages and linguistics (preferably corpus linguistics).
- The ability to develop projects to tight timescales.
- Good communication skills - the role involves close liaison with application and
database designers as well as end-users of the new application.
- Proven documentation skills.
In addition, the following would be desirable, but not essential:
- Knowledge of C++, C, Perl and/or XSLT.
- An understanding of typesetting.
Applicants should thrive in a team environment, but must also be self-motivated,
and therefore comfortable working on their own. This position will initially be
for 12 months on a fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will enjoy an
