The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.
This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

University or Organization: University of Utah
Department: Linguistics
Rank of Job: Full Professor
Specialty Areas: Endangered Languages
Description:
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Utah invites
applications for a position at the rank of Professor to develop, seek
external funds for, and direct a proposed center for endangered
languages with an emphasis on Western North America. Tenure at the
time of appointment is possible. The position begins 1 July 2004.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field, an outstanding
research record on endangered languages of the Americas, and the
proven ability to attract external funding and head a research team.
Ability to teach introductory phonology would be a plus.
The Department of Linguistics has strong undergraduate and graduate
programs in theoretical and applied linguistics. We expect that the
proposed center will enhance both of these ares of strength by
engaging in basic research on indigenous languages as well as
developing maintenance and revitalization projects in cooperation with
regional tribal communities. (Please see the Department website at
http://www.hum.utah.edu/linguistics for further information about us.)
We also expect that the proposed center will foster interdisciplinary
activity among campus groups such as the Inter-tribal Student
Association, American Indian Studies, and the Center for the Study of
Race and Diversity in Higher Education.
Send letter of application, vitae, and names of three individuals from
