This is a session of the following conference: 9th International
Pragmatics Conference
Meeting Description:
Panel on Argumentation and Truth. Work is invited from all
disciplinary perspectives on any intersection between pragmatics and
argumentation.
International Pragmatics Association Conference, 10-15 July, 2005,
Riva del Garda, Italy
We are soliciting papers for an special topic panel on Argumentation &
Truth for the upcoming 9th IPrA conference, Pragmatics and Philosophy.
Work is invited from all disciplinary perspectives on any intersection
between pragmatics and argumentation, and especially on the panel
theme, including:
- truth and the premises of argument;
- truth-creation as a function of argument;
- the genesis, extent and role of obligations of truthfulness in the
argumentative process;
- the interrelationship of theories of argument to theories of truth;
- treatments of truth and truthfulness in the history of argumentation
theory;
- the interrelationship of rhetoric to argumentation;
- the role of truth in persuasion
- the role of truth in multi-modal argumentation.

Proposals are invited for pre-conference workshops on July 14th at the
University of Birmingham. The conference, Corpus Linguistics 2005, is
run jointly by the universities of Birmingham and Lancaster, and is
the third biennial conference in the series on Corpus Linguistics. The
workshops and the conference will be held at the University of
Birmingham between July 14th -17th 2005
The aim of the workshops is to give participants a learning experience
in a new field related to corpus linguistics. We invite submission of
proposals both for computer-based as well as classroom-based
learning. The University of Birmingham will provide computer clusters
if needed for a workshop.
A detailed proposal of the workshop, not exceeding 400 words, should
be sent in electronic form to Pernilla Danielsson by December 3rd ,
2004 to the following e-mail address:
pernilla at ccl.bham.ac.uk. Included in the proposal should be
information about the time needed, what type of equipment is expected
for the teacher as well as for the participants. Please use the
attached cover form. The conference will remit a fee to workshop
organisers, based on the number of participants in the workshop.
