The Institute of Cognitive Science, University of Osnabrueck, invites
applications for the position of a
Junior Professor in Computational Linguistics (Bes.Gr. W1)
to be filled by 01 October, 2004 or soon after.
The contract will be initially for 3 years, with the possibility of an
extension of a further period of 3 years.
The successful applicant will represent the discipline of
Computational Linguistics within Cognitive Science with regard to both
teaching and research in his or her own responsibility and will act
independently also with regard to the acquisition of external research
funds. The successful completion of a period of appointment as a
Junior Professor is regarded as qualifying for a full professorship.
The position involves the teaching of computational linguistics
courses, with a focus also on technical and applied work, in the
international BSc, MSc, and Doctorate Programmes of Cognitive
Science. The position involves research in one or more of the core
areas of computational natural language research, linked to the
departmental research focus.
Requirements: Doctorate in linguistics / computational linguistics /
computer science or closely related discipline and excellent research
qualifications, documented by an excellent dissertation and further
research publications in computational linguistics; Interest and
experience in interdisciplinary work in connection with one of the
other subdisciplines of cognitive science; Research specialisation in
lexicon, morphology, syntax, or semantics is desirable. Very good
knowledge of English and at least elementary German, as well as a very
good qualification for teaching are required. Applicants should have
completed their doctorate within the past five years.
Cognitive Science is implemented at the University of Osnabrueck
currently with chairs in the following disciplines: Artificial
Intelligence, Computational Linguistics, Neuroinformatics, Theoretical
Computer Science, Neurobiopsychology, Philosophy of Cognition,
Cognitive Psychology.
The University of Osnabrueck strives for an increase in the number of
