The July/August 2004 issue of _Mother Jones_ , pp. 75-79, has a very
interesting article titled "Keepers of a Lost Language," written by
Dashka Slater. The intro blurb reads "An 82-year-old linguist and his
young protégé are among the last speakers of a native California
language -- and its final chance." The language in question is Maidu.
