Two exciting job opportunities in Denver, Colorado
Larry Hunter's Center for Computational Pharmacology at the University
of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado is recruiting
to fill two research assistant/associate positions in an exciting new
federally funded research program in natural language processing in
molecular biology. The first position is:
Lead Software Engineer for knowledge-based natural language
processing system for molecular biology texts.
Working under the direction of principle investigator Dr. Lawrence
Hunter, the lead engineer will be responsible for the design and
implementation of a natural language processing system that extracts
information from a large number of short texts about the function of
genes and gene products. The system will used knowledge-based parsing
principles, driven by content from the Gene Ontology and other
knowledge-bases. The lead engineer will supervise a team of
post-doctoral research trainees, research assistants, and graduate
students on the project. All candidates must have a Ph.D. in computer
science or a related field and at least one year of post-doctoral
research experience is required. The salary range for this position
is $55,000 to $108,000 per annum, depending on qualifications

The second position is:
Software tester for natural language processing in molecular biology.
The software tester will assemble test data, automate tests, run
tests, and create reports of results. This position requires close
interaction with the application developer. Testing techniques to be
applied will include unit testing, system testing, automated
data-driven testing, and statistical evaluation. All candidates must
have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, an understanding of
basic linguistic concepts, and at least one year's experience in
software testing. Also applicants must have at least one year's
experience programming experience in PERL or Java and two year's
experience working in a linux/unix environment. A basic understanding
of molecular biology is highly desirable. The salary range for this
position is between $35,000 and $65,000 per annum, depending on
qualifications.
