Meeting Description:
To celebrate the conclusion of eCoLoRe (eContent Localisation Resources for
Translator Training) and the launch of MeLLANGE (Multilingual eLearning in
LANGuage Engineering), both funded by LEONARDO, we have organised this
international forum for researchers, trainers, practitioners and tool
providers.
We invite you to share your experience of designing, creating and using
resources for training in translation and localisation, especially in an
e-learning environment, by offering a paper or a poster or simply by
joining the discussions.
OUTLINE PROGRAMME
Keynote speakers Bert Esselink (Lionbridge Technologies Inc) and Klaus
Schubert (Fachhochschule Flensburg) will present an industry view on
training needs and an account of e-learning for translation memory tools.
Tutorials and hands-on workshops will introduce: translation memory and
software localisation tools; translation project management; XML for
translators.
Round-tables will bring together academics and practitioners, trainers and
tools providers, 'traditional' and 'technological' translation teachers.
Exhibitions by leading providers will show the state of the art in
translation technologies.
WORKSHOP THEMES
Papers and posters are invited to address the following broad issues
- e-learning in translator training
- corpora in translator training
- curriculum design
- quality standards in translation
- annotation schemes for translator errors

PUBLICATION
All accepted papers and posters will be published in the workshop proceedings.
We are exploring with a leading translation studies publisher the
possibility of publishing extended versions of selected papers as an edited
book.

Call for Papers
Call Deadline: Jan 14, 2005
The CONFERENCE ON ENDANGERED LANGUAGES AND CULTURES OF NATIVE AMERICA (1st
annual CELCNA meeting) will be held April 8-9, 2005, on the University of Utah
campus in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The sponsors of this conference are: (1) Center for American Indian
Languages (CAIL), University of Utah, (2) Department of Anthropology,
National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, (3) Department
of Linguistics, U of Utah and (4) College of Humanities, U of Utah.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Leanne Hinton (Chair, Dept of Linguistics,
University of California, Berkeley).
We invite papers dealing with any aspect of endangered Native American
languages, in particular on documentation or revitalization. Papers are 20
minutes each in length, with an additional 10 minutes for discussion.
ABSTRACTS MUST BE RECEIVED by Jan 14, 2005. The program committee will
attempt to provide notification of acceptance by Jan. 21 (by e-mail).
Abstract submission guidelines:
- The abstract should be no more than 500 words in length. It should
include the title of the paper and the name (or names) of the
author/authors, together with the author's/authors' affiliation. (If the
paper is accepted, this abstract will be reproduced in conference materials
to be distributed to other participants.)
- Abstracts must be submitted electronically. Submissions should be in
Microsoft Word document, Rich Text Format (RTF), or Portable Document
Format (PDF). If possible, avoid special fonts (or arrange with the
organizers so they can be read).
- Please include in addition to your abstract appropriate contact details,
which include: contact author's name, e-mail address for the period of time
from January to April 2005, and a telephone contact number.
- More than one abstract may be submitted per person; however, only one
paper per person will be accepted for presentation. (The only exception
may be in instances where at least one of the papers has multiple authors.)

no later than Jan. 14, 2005.
