We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.
To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Subject: Phonetically Transcribed Italian Corpus
In an effort to collect phoneme frequencies in standard Italian, I'm now
looking for any type of transcribed (phonetically) Italian corpus to run
some scripts on. Does anyone out there know of such a corpus? I'd of
course prefer something that is either free or inexpensive.
Thanks in advance - I'll post a summary of responses and will eventually
publish the frequencies.

Subject: Idioms in Text
With Regards to all linguists,
I am conducting a research project and I need authentic modern (1990 and
above) texts (paragraphs) containing idioms, e.g., once and for all, lose
track of something, sweep something under the carpet...etc.
I have tried the internet but could only find a small amount of texts,
mostly texts from newspapers.
I am not sure if a corpus will do. I have a random sample of idioms to find
within texts.
Your help will be appreciated.
Thank you in anticipation,
Haider
