Description:

Computational Linguistics.  The Department of Writing and Linguistics at
Georgia Southern University (http://class.georgiasouthern.edu/writling/) seeks
applications for a tenure-track assistant professor to teach undergraduate and
graduate courses in linguistics within its BA degree program.  Ph.D. in
Linguistics with a specialization in computational linguistics or related field
required by starting date of the position, Aug. 1, 2005. Dissertation in field
and evidence of excellent teaching are required.  A minimum of two years of
college teaching experience is preferred.  Preference may be given to candidates
with experience working with diverse student populations and experience teaching
first-year composition.  Salary dependent upon qualifications.  We seek
candidates with broad interests that complement a department with programs in
linguistics, technical and professional writing, creative writing, writing and
culture, first-year composition, teacher education, and ESL.  The successful
candidate must also have expertise in one or more of these areas: syntax, applied
linguistics, historical linguistics and discourse analysis.

Pre-screening of applicants may occur at the Linguistic Society of America
Meeting in San Francisco, CA, on Jan. 6-9, 2005.  Interested candidates should
send a letter of application, curriculum vitae, evidence of excellent teaching,
and the names, addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers of three
references for initial screening to the address below. The deadline for
applications has been extended to December 10, 2004.  Additional materials may
be requested at a later date.
