Description:

The Department of World Language Education at the University of South
Florida is seeking candidates for an appointment to a tenure track position
at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective August 07, 2005.  Salary
negotiable.

Responsibilities:
Teach linguistics/applied linguistics courses at the graduate and undergraduate
level, including: Introduction to Linguistics (undergraduate course), Applied
Linguistics, Language Testing, Second Language Acquisition, and Structure of
English.  Engage in research and professional activities.  Mentor graduate
students.  Participate actively in program management of the M.A. program in
Applied Linguistics and in the affairs of the interdisciplinary doctoral program
in Second Language Acquisition and Instructional Technology.  Participate in
governance in the department, college, and university.

Qualifications:
Minimum: Doctorate in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or closely related
field by (08/23/05); strong communication skills in English.

Preferred: Applied linguist with strong theoretical linguistics background
or linguist with strong applied linguistics background;  research record
which indicates active research and scholarship; experience teaching
undergraduate and/or graduate linguistics/applied linguistics courses;
demonstrated experience with instructional technology; ability to seek
external funding for research and/or program development; experience
serving on dissertation committees; record of service to appropriate
professional organizations; demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary
programs and collaborative projects.

three (3) letters of professional recommendation, evidence of teaching
