Dissertation Abstract:
As it is widely known, time adverbials play an important role in the
temporal configuration of a sentence while their semantic and syntactic
description rests relatively marginal. This dissertation has two primary
objectives. The first objective is to describe in detail the function of
the Korean temporal adverbial with DONGAN, identifying four factors
relevant to the description of DONGAN: distinction of
mono-occurrence/multi-occurrence, structure of determiner group,
quantification and type of nuclear sentences. The second objective is to
represent the observed function of DONGAN formally in framework of G
grammar proposed by F. Renaud (1996) whose two principal components are
typed lambda-calculus and unification grammar.
