Some users of this list may like to listen to a popular BBC Radio 4
science programme. The link:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/science/leadingedge.shtml will be valid
for a short while from the time of this posting.

The items on the show are varied, and I won't summarise them here, but
the show's remit seems to be as follows: ''If what interests you are
new and exciting ideas, it's science you should be turning to. And
whether it's the Human Genome Project or the origins of the Universe,
Leading Edge is the place to hear about them.''

The final item on the show is described as follows.

''Speech Science Sings a New Quantum Tune

Scientists have for the first time reproduced human speech sounds.

It's an achievement that could revolutionise the field of speech
recognition and make man-machine misunderstandings a thing of the
past.''
