The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

The Linguistics Department at the University of Maryland invites
applications for an open rank position in Language Acquisition
beginning August 2005. Applicants for the position should already
have a PhD or expect to have one by next August, should be prepared to
teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The ideal
candidate should be able to build on one or more of the department-s
existing strengths in linguistic theory, psycho/neurolinguistics, and
computational linguistics, and should show potential for an
extramurally funded research program. Teaching experience at the
university level is also highly desirable.

Letters of application should indicate whether applicants plan to
attend the January 2005 LSA meeting in San Francisco or the BU Child
Language Conference in November 2004. Applicants should send (i) a
current cv, (ii) samples of written work and (iii) should arrange to
have three letters of reference sent. For best consideration,
applications should arrive by December 1, 2004. EO/AAE.
