METHODS XII
Twelfth International Conference on Methods in Dialectology
August 1 - 5, 2005
Université de Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada
As part of the academic program of Methods XII, we the undersigned
intend to organize a language-contact workshop under the theme:
FINNO-UGRIC LANGUAGE CONTACTS (II).
The purpose of this 2nd workshop under this theme, organized in order
to establish and strengthen research contacts for an envisaged research
project on Finnish-English contacts, is to explore contact-induced
changes in Finno-Ugric languages and the English spoken by Finno-Ugric
ethnic-language groups. The workshop will consist of a possible plenary
lecture, papers, and a concluding discussion.
We invite abstracts for papers on any aspect of contact between a
Finno-Ugric language and English. We will also be happy to consider
papers on contact between Finno-Ugric languages and another language
than English.
Please send a copy of your abstract by email to greg.watson at joensuu.fi
or to the postal address below. We may have to limit the number of papers
presented at the workshop according to the time allotted, in which case
presentation as a regular section paper at Methods XII
(http://www.chass.utoronto.ca/~cla-acl/methods12.html) would be an
alternative. We envisage publishing selected papers from the workshop as
a single edited volume, which would be the 2nd in this series after having
published the results from our first workshop which was held at the
Methods XI conference in Joensuu, Finland in 2002.
The deadline for submission is 25 October 2004, but we would greatly
appreciate an earlier note of intention to participate and a tentative
title. That would help us plan the details of the workshop.
