Description:

The University of Cincinnati Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders
invites applications for a two-year research associate/postdoctoral position.
The major goal of the project is to develop models of speech production for
articulatorily complex sounds, using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI),
ultrasound and acoustical data.  A secondary goal is to translate findings into
clinically useful strategies for teaching speech production. The primary
responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to participate as a member
of the research team in the development of acoustical and articulatory modeling
strategies, plus the development of a public data-sharing website.

The successful candidate should have completed a higher degree in Linguistics,
Speech Pathology, Psycholinguistics, Psychology, Computer Science, or a related
field, and have an interest in phonetics.  The candidate should also have
demonstrated interests and experience in phonetic/phonological theory, speech
motor control, acoustical analysis, computer modeling, or speech science.

The NIH-funded project is a cooperative effort among researchers at University
of Cincinnati, Haskins Laboratories, and the University of Maryland. The
University of Cincinnati is a major research university and part of the public
university system of the state of Ohio.  Its location in Cincinnati, Ohio
provides a large selection of cultural, intellectual, and athletic activities
together with a convenient lifestyle and a low cost of living.

The two-year position carries a starting salary range of  $40,000-$45,000, with
fringe benefits. The final salary will be arranged based on experience and
qualifications.  There is some flexibility in starting time for this position,
but ideally we would expect employment to begin in fall of 2005.  Applications
