conference will address the latest developments in translation (and

CALL FOR PAPERS
This conference focuses on the user aspects of translation software. The
conference series attracts a wide audience which includes translators, business
managers, researchers and language experts.  Once again, this year the
conference will address the latest developments in translation (and
translation-related) software. It will address the needs of the following
conference attendees:
-industry
-public administration
-agencies
-freelancers
-development
This call for papers invites abstracts of papers to be presented at the
conference. The papers (and the presentations) should focus on the user aspects
of translation or translation-related software rather than on theoretical
issues. Presentations accompanied by demonstrations are especially welcome.

Authors are required to submit an abstract of a MINIMUM of 500 words of the
paper they would like to present, together with an outline of the structure of
the paper and short BIOGRAPHY.

This year the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is hosting a symposium
on language teaching that will precede the 25th meeting of the South Asian
Language Analysis (SALA) roundtable, September 16-18, 2005.

PRE-CONFERENCE SYMPOSIUM:September 15, 2005, 9 am to 4 pm, Lucy Ellis Lounge,
Foreign Languages Building, University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois.

SYMPOSIUM THEME:Heritage Learners: Overcoming Curricular Challenges (Organizer,
Dr. Steven Poulos, Director, SALRC)

INVITED SPEAKERS:Silvina Montrul (Spanish, Italian and Portuguese
Dept/University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), Helen Corley Petit (Spanish,
Italian and Portuguese Dept/ University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

Abstracts are invited for 30 minute paper presentations addressing issues of
instructional methodologies in language programs with substantial numbers of
heritage students, focusing on, among other issues:

*Differences between heritage and non-heritage learner outcomes;
*Transmission and maintenance of heritage languages;
*Bilingualism and biculturalism;
*Curricular policy development;
*Teaching culture, learning language.

Deadline: April 30, 2005. Email submissions (sala-25 at uiuc.edu) are encouraged.

Note: Faculty and graduate students at South Asia (or International Studies)
National Resource Center campuses should look to their Centers for conference
support. SALRC has funds available to support some travel and lodging costs for
presenters from non-NRC institutions.
