We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.
To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Subject: Bilingual Experiment
Hello everyone,
I'm currently running some research on homosexuality and for some reasons
of reference, I need to find who did this experiment about French-English
bilingual individuals in Canada (I guess). A same person was perceived
very differently according to the language he/she used although he/she
would have "perfect" french and english. it's a test on descrimination for
which I would like to have the reference if anyone sees what I'm writing about I
would be appreciative. A colleague told me about Lambert but I could not find
the text.
Thanks to all of you.

I'm trying to get a sense of the procedures for gaining human subjects
approval for researchers doing fieldwork from universities in different
countries. I'm especially in need of feedback from non-US and
non-Australian universities.
I'd be very grateful if you could send me an email with the following
information.
I'll aggregate responses and post a summary by country. (Any comments will
be kept confidential unless you ask me to include them in the summary.)
Thanks very much in advance for your help.

Are you required to apply for approval from an ethics committee? (IRB/HUman
subjects in research, etc)
If so, does the committee fully evaluate your application or does it
typically grant an exemption?
Any comments on the process? [e.g. any problems with differing expectations
of anonymity between the linguist/community and the review board, or with
documenting 'informed consent'?]
