Meeting Description:
AILA 2008 - the 15th World Congress of Applied Linguistics in Essen (Germany) - invites contributions from all research areas relevant to Applied Linguistics. The conference theme in 2008 will be 'Multilingualism - Challenges & Opportunities'
The Host
GAL e.V. - the German Association of Applied Linguistics - together with Duisburg-Essen University and the CCE - Congress Center Essen - has pleasure in inviting you to AILA 2008, to be held in Essen (Germany) from August 24-29, 2008.
The Theme
European institutions have always supported policies intended to foster multilingual and multicultural diversity. In view of European and global developments, multilingualism - with all its challenges and opportunities - will be a very topical theme in 2008. It is felt that this will attract a lot of attention, thus promising to be a great stimulus for academic debate in that year.
The Venue
It is felt that Germany with its growing migrant community, and the Ruhr Area as a region which succeeded in forming a very special community from multicultural and multilingual roots during the first industrial revolution are particularly well suited to host a conference on this topic.
So, please join us at the 15th World Congress of Applied Linguistics in Essen, the administrative, cultural, and economic heart of the Ruhr Area.
