================================================================
The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

University or Organization: Institut fuer Deutsche Sprache
Department: Grammar
Job Rank: Research Assistant
Specialty Areas: Phonology; Syntax; Phonology / Syntax
Required Language(s): Hungarian (HNG)
Polish (PQL)
Description:
The Department of Grammar at the Institut fuer Deutsche Sprache (Mannheim,
Germany) invites applications for two half-time positions of research
assistants (Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter, German pay-scale 1/2 BAT IIa) in
the GDE-project (Grammatik des Deutschen im europaeischen Vergleich). Both
positions are non-permanent starting on October 1, 2005 and terminating
after two years.
The project aims at profiling the German grammar against a typological
background and in contrast to other European languages. Core contrasting
languages are English, French, Polish and Hungarian
(http://www.ids-mannheim.de/gra/eurostudien.html). The project group is
currently focusing on the morphology and syntax of nominal expressions and
constructions.
The successful candidate will have a Master/Magister or equivalent degree
in Polish or Hungarian linguistics (Polonistik, Hungarologie) or is a
native speaker of Polish or Hungarian with a Master/Magister or equivalent
degree in theoretical or German linguistics. In either case, a strong
command of German is mandatory as well as an excellent knowledge of
phonology or (morpho-)syntax. Research in one of these two areas is
expected to be done from a contrastive perspective (Polish/German or
Hungarian/German) and should result in a doctoral dissertation.
