The Department of Linguistics at the University of Canterbury (New Zealand)
is now accepting applications for a Targeted PhD Scholarship in the area of
the Sociophonetics of New Zealand English.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

Issues to do with Vowel Merger and/or Chain-shift; The relationship between
speech production and speech perception;  Regional variation in New Zealand
English;  The speech of New Zealand adolescents.

The successful applicant will receive NZ$15,000 per annum, plus tuition
fees at the domestic rate, for three years.    The student must enroll in
the PhD within 6 months of receiving the formal offer.
