Editors' introduction
It is our pleasure to present this special issue of System which launches this
journal's new multimedia capabilities. When we first discussed the possibility
of guest editing this landmark issue, we understood how fitting it was for
System to offer applied linguistics research reports that would allow perusal
of supplemental multimedia, including real time video segments, animated
graphics and presentations, sampling of audio files relevant and integral to
the reports, as well as hyperlinks to other supporting materials. For some
years, System has been devoted to exploring the use of educational
technologies in solving problems having to do with language learning and
teaching. We feel the new multimedia capabilities, as exemplified by the
articles we offer here, brings System more completely in line with its mission.
