Name Theory: a special issue of ONOMA
_____________________________________

The guest editor of ONOMA vol. 41, Richard Coates, invites articles on any
aspect of Name Theory for possible inclusion in the volume to be published
for the subscription year 2006.

Onomastics is the study of proper names, and articles for this volume may
be about any aspect of the nature and usage of proper names in general, or
of categories of them. They should not be about specific names in any
category unless the article draws generally applicable conclusions. Topics
might include their philosophical or linguistic nature, their
classification, and the methodologies used in studying them (e.g.
theoretical-linguistic, pragmatic, textlinguistic, sociological,
psychological, historical or geographical).

ONOMA, the journal of the International Council of Onomastic Sciences,
publishes a single volume of about 300 pages each year on a specific area
or theme of name study. Articles may be in English, German, or French, and
generally range from 10 to 30 pages.

Please send proposals (in outline form) by 1 August 2005, or inquiries
earlier, to:

Prof. Richard Coates
Department of Linguistics and English Language
University of Sussex
Brighton BN1 9QN
United Kingdom
Email: richardc at susx.ac.uk

Inquiries may also be sent to the general editor of ONOMA, Dr Doreen
Gerritzen, email doreen.gerritzen at meertens.knaw.nl, who will oversee the
production of this volume. Proposals may also be invited by the Guest Editor.
