Associate Lecturer of English Position - Kwansei Gakuin University
The School of Policy Studies at Kwansei Gakuin University invites
candidates for (2) Associate Lecturers of English (ALE) positions, to begin
April 1, 2006. Contracts are one year, renewable each year by mutual
agreement for a maximum of four years.
JOB DUTIES
The English Language Program (ELP), with a coordinated curriculum, is
rigorous and challenging. The successful candidates will offer fresh
approaches and ideas based on sound Second Language Acquisition principles,
as they work closely with the other ALEs and a dedicated part-time faculty.
Each ALE's duties include eight 90-minute classes each week, in addition to
one or two weekly coordination meetings. Course coordination involves:
- improving existing course materials and creating new courses
- setting course objectives
- providing materials and lesson plans to course teachers
- responding to fellow teachers with regards to course planning and other
issues
- determining grading criteria and processing grades
Other duties involve:
- working with teachers and staff in responding to student needs
- evaluating program continually as to its overall effectiveness in
promoting student learning
- designing and teaching theme-based Special Topic courses
- occasionally attending important campus events
- participating in hiring full-time and part-time teachers
QUALIFICATIONS
- an MA in a relevant discipline (e.g., TESOL, Applied Linguistics, etc.)
- minimum 2 years university level teaching experience
- experience coordinating other teachers or working in a coordinated program
- experience in curriculum design and materials development
- a demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team
- evidence of and a commitment to professional development
- native-like competence in English
