The aim of this workshop is to discuss the adequacy and explanatory power of
current models that aim at explaining how learners acquire the phonetic and
phonological knowledge needed to accurately perceive and produce their first
(L1) and second (L2) languages. The workshop will include oral and poster
sessions on the following topics:
Models of speech perception and production
Models of phonetic and phonological development
Modelling L1 versus L2 phonetic/phonological acquisition
Explaining the relationship between phonetics and phonology
Explaining the relationship between perception and production
We invite abstract submissions for twenty-minute talks or poster presentations
on any of these modelling topics. We specially look forward to receiving
submissions that compare different existing models and how specific data confirm
or disconfirm them.
Abstracts must be submitted electronically in PDF format. All-inclusive abstract
length is 1 A4 page, single-spaced and in 12 pt (10 pt for references). The
abstract should include the title of the presentation and should be ANONYMOUS
Submissions should include a pdf attachment as well as the following information
in the body of the email: Abstract title, name(s) of the author(s), affiliation,
and preference for oral or poster presentation.
Send your submission to: paola.escudero at uva.nl no later than August 30th.

The annual conference of the British Association for Slavonic and East European
Studies (BASEES) will take place at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge University
(UK), between 1-3 April 2006. Abstracts are invited for individual 20-minute
papers or for entire panels (2-3 papers) in any area of Slavonic philology,
linguistics, language teaching, and translation studies. The working languages
of the conference are English and Russian.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE BRITISH ASSOCIATION FOR SLAVONIC AND EAST
EUROPEAN STUDIES 2006
CALL FOR PAPERS IN LANGUAGES AND LINGUISTICS
At this year's conference we had approximately thirty papers in formal
linguistics, historical linguistics, applied linguistics, language teaching,
and translation studies presented by academics and graduate students from
institutions in the UK and abroad. The annual convention as a whole brings
together scholars from a wide range of disciplines including literary studies,
linguistics, cultural studies, history, economics, politics, sociology, film
and media studies as they pertain to Central and Eastern Europe and to the
former Soviet Union.
Abstracts for language and linguistics papers or panels should be sent,
