Abstract:

A 'Reconstrução Fonológica do Protomaku Oriental' é estabelecida segundo o
modelo da Lingüística Histórico-Comparativa. Neste livro, apresenta-se uma
classificação interna das línguas do Protomaku Oriental: Nadëb do rio
Negro, Nadëb do Roçado, Dâw, Hupda e Yuhup. Os falantes dessas línguas
habitam a região interfluvial da Amazônia entre Brasil e Colômbia, onde
também vivem os Arawak e Tukano. Os Maku são povos de tradição nômade,
sendo considerados como os melhores caçadores da Amazônia. 

Nesta obra, o leitor encontrará uma descrição da fonologia de cada língua
do Protomaku Oriental, e partindo destas, faz-se a reconstrução da
fonologia da língua mãe. Através desta abordagem, é possível explicar a
evolução de cada sistema fonológico e apontar os caminhos percorridos por
cada língua para que suas fonologias se tornassem tão diferentes uma das
outras em alguns aspectos como tons, laringalização, duração, harmonia
vocálica, nasalização etc.

As línguas Maku sempre foram consideradas isoladas, porém, neste trabalho,
aponta-se um parentesco Arawak-Maku.

Este livro é do interesse dos acadêmicos de Ciências Humanas e dos
pesquisadores de línguas e culturas indígenas.
