Attention News Editors:
The Trubbel with English
TORONTO, May 11 /CNW/ - Why is English so darn hard to spell? Why are
words that are spelled the same pronounced differently with different
meanings? Why are their/there/they're no consistent rules?
To answer these age-old questions and more, TVO has produced The
Trubbel with English, a half-hour special that will explore the fascinating
history of a language that is spoken by over two billion people around the
globe.
Airing on May 22 at 6:00 p.m, this program features interviews with
Jack Chambers, a University of Toronto linguistics professor, and Julie
Spence, the Spelling Bee of Canada's founder and president. As well,
competitors from both the senior and junior Spelling Bee of Canada's 2004
Ontario Provincial Championship will be highlighted.
