Call Deadline: 30-Nov-2005

Meeting Description:

The seminar aims at bringing together researchers from different disciplines, with a view to exchange ideas about the best ways to measure vocabulary knowledge of bilinguals. This implies the application of measures in more than one language. This meeting will focus on understanding bilingual speech processing, with a particular focus on word recognition in bilinguals and bilingual speech production. In addition, we will try to uncover how bilingual proficiency can be measured and whether concepts such as 'balanced bilingual' or 'language dominance' can be operationalized.

This seminar is part of a ESRC seminar series jointly organised by the University of the West of England, Bristol (Jeanine Treffers-Daller, Helmut Daller), The University of Swansea (Paul Meara, Jim Milton) and the University of Reading (David Malvern, Brian Richards). For more information see:
       http://www.esrcsocietytoday.ac.uk/ESRCInfoCentre/Minisite/vocabulary/index.html

The keynote speakers for the seminar in January 2006 are:
David Green (UCL)
Manfred Pienemann (Newcastle/ Paderborn)
Norman Segalowitz (Concordia University, CA)

Please contact Jeanine.Treffers-Daller at uwe.ac.uk or Helmut.Daller at uwe.ac.uk if you would like to participate. The seminar is sponsored by the ESRC and there will be no conference fees, but the number of participants will be limited to twenty maximum.

Deadline for receipt of abstracts: Wednesday 30 November 2006.
