Description:
The School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies invites applications
for a tenure-track position in Language Teaching Methodology at the
Assistant Professor level starting 1 July 2006. We seek candidates with a
specialization in Language Teaching Methodology and an interest in spoken
academic discourse. A major part of the job duties for this position will
involve teaching on, and coordination of, the School's Certificate program
in TESL. Successful candidates will be expected to teach in the
undergraduate and graduate programs, supervise graduate students, and
develop a program of research leading to significant peer-reviewed
publications. A Ph.D. and significant evidence of ability in research and
teaching are required. Applicants must also hold a certificate in TESL and
offer at least five years classroom experience in TESL and at least three
years classroom experience in teacher education.
The School is a research-intensive academic unit with strong undergraduate
degree programs in applied and theoretical linguistics, a certificate
program in TESL, and a well-known graduate program. The MA in Applied
Language Studies has streams in the teaching and acquisition of additional
languages, and in writing and literacy studies. A Ph.D. is currently
proposed in Applied Language Studies. The School also teaches credit
courses in academic English and both European and Non-European languages,
and runs a non-credit ESL program and a language testing unit. For further
