We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.
To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Subject: Swear Words in the Classroom
I am a student at Northeastern Illinois University. I am taking a
sociolinguistic class and need participants for a short survey. It pertains
to linguistic instructors (specifically) and their use (or lack of use) of
swear words. It will take about 15 minutes to complete. This is for a
research project and I would really appreciate your time. If interested you
may e-mail me at...

Thank You.

As part of a project being carried out by the LSA Committee on Endangered
Languages and their Preservation, we are collecting information on field
methods courses, as well as courses on language revitalization.
If you have taught field methods or language revitalization/language
death/language endangerment courses in recent years and are willing to
share your syllabus, we would greatly appreciate it.
If you agree, your syllabus will become part of a website about fieldwork.
In addition, we would appreciate knowing what languages you/your
department has studied in field methods.
***We would like to thank the people who responded so far for sharing useful
information along with their syllabi. We will let you know as soon
as the website with the information on it is ready.***
***We received responses from North American universities and colleges
only, but we strongly encourage any institution around the world to participate
in the project, if involved in fieldwork training and language
revitalization programs.***
Please send this information to Chiara Frigeni:

Thank you for your participation,
