One (1) tenure track Assistant Professor position for AY 2006
The Department of Linguistics and the Division of English as an
International Language (DEIL) at the University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) invite applications for one joint, tenure track,
full time Assistant Professor position in Second Language Acquisition
(SLA). The successful candidate will demonstrate both a well-defined
research agenda in SLA and a commitment to excellence in teaching.
Preference will be given to candidates with classroom ESL/EFL teaching
experience and empirically grounded cognitive/psycholinguistic/neurolinguistic
approaches to SLA. Expertise in other areas that complement the existing
strengths of the DEIL and Linguistics programs will be considered an asset.
Professional level fluency in English is required, and fluency in a language
other than English is also desirable. Responsibilities include research,
teaching and advising in the graduate and undergraduate programs and other
regular departmental service.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition studies,
(Applied) Linguistics or a related field by the starting date of the
appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The starting
date is August 16, 2006.
