We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Is anyone familiar with any studies conducted on the consistency of vowel
production in native and non-native speakers of English? I am interested
in examining the aspects of both production and perception.

I am an undergraduate linguistics major at Yale. I am looking at
double-morphology phenomena in Hebrew borrowings from English.

I've done my best to familiarize myself with the available accounts of CS
and their explanations of the phenomena (MacSwan, Myers-Scotton etc). I
have also looked at some available data from other languages (mostly
code-switching, including English/Cantonese, Turkish/Dutch and
Russian/English, as well as Chichewa borrowings from English).

I would now like to delve deeper into lexicon side of things to get a
broader perspective. Can anyone suggest a few good things to read that
discuss the lexicon as it applies to bilingualism and code-switching? I'm
also looking for anything that deals with how affixes become nonproductive
(again, anything in the context of bilingualism is even better).

Respectfully yours,

Michael Shvartsman
