Description:
The Department of Philosophy at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications
for one tenure track position beginning September 1, 2006.
Responsibilities: exemplary research and publication, teaching four courses per
year, and graduate student supervision.
Rank: open, with preference to hire at the assistant professor level.
Area: open, but the department has a special interest in several areas,
including research on natural language interpretation. Philosophically
motivated and informed applicants working on issues related to natural
language interpretation from the perspective of theoretical linguistics,
psycholinguistics, computational linguistics or traditional philosophy are
invited to apply. In keeping with the Department's commitment to original,
rigorous, interdisciplinary research, strong preference will be given to
candidates who fruitfully apply computational, analytical, logical or
experimental methods to significant philosophical problems in this domain.
A demonstrated ability to collaborate in research with experts in the
candidate's area of application is also encouraged.
The Department particularly encourages applications from women and members
