================================================================
The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.
Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Specialty Areas: Applied Linguistics;
TESL/Subsequent Language Acquisition (SLA)
Description:
The Department of Applied Linguistics, Brock University, offers
undergraduate majors in Applied Linguistics/TESL, in Speech and Language
Sciences, and in Hearing Sciences; and a graduate program in Applied
Linguistics/TESL. Applications are invited for a probationary tenure track
appointment subject to final budgetary approval, to begin on July 1, 2006
or at a mutually agreed time afterwards. We seek applicants with
outstanding research and teaching expertise. The successful candidate will
teach courses in linguistics that are the common foundation for all
Department majors, and in TESL at the undergraduate, Certificate and MA
levels. Applicants with a strong research and academic background in
Subsequent Language Acquisition (SLA) are particularly encouraged to apply.
Candidates should hold a PhD in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a
closely related field. The successful candidate will be expected to sustain
an active program of research/scholarship, to work toward attracting
external research funding, to participate in the academic and
administrative activities of the Department, and to teach at the
undergraduate and graduate levels. The appointment will be made at the rank
of Assistant or Associate Professor, conditional on qualifications and
experience. Review of applications will commence on November 14, 2005, and
will continue until the position is filled.
Interested applicants should send a cover letter (indicating clearly to
which position they are applying), current curriculum vitae, and complete
and up-to-date names, addresses and other contact details of three referees
to the address below. Please arrange for the three letters of recommendation to
be sent directly to Dr. Farrell, without awaiting solicitation; to assure that
letters are as specific as possible, candidates are advised to apprise referees
of the nature of the Department and of the advertised position.
Positions are subject to budgetary approval. Applicants should have fluent
written and oral communication skills in English. All qualified candidates
are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be
given priority. Brock University is committed to a positive action policy
