We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Dear Collegues
I would like to know if someone has created a Developmental Sentence Score
for french grammar or if someone has applied the score for English grammar
to French language.
Is it applied or I need to modify it?
thank you very much.

Subject: Zulu Focus and Treatment of Focus Particles
Hi,
I'm currently examining the distribution of the focus prefix '-ya-'in the
Zulu verb, mainly as described by Doke (1927) and Poulos (1998). Since the
data they give with their descriptions leave open several possible
interpretations of the focus marker, I'm hoping to learn a little more
about the nature of focus cross-linguistically so that I might be able to
figure out which types of Zulu structures would help clarify the situation.
Specifically, I'm interested to know if anyone is aware of languages that
have a focus particle that operates in negative constructions. I'm also
interested in looking at the treatment of a functional focus projection
cross-linguistically and would be grateful for any sources on the subject.
Thanks,
Claire Halpert
